This September, the Necromantic Film & Book Club is entering the world of BATTLE ROYALE.
Before The Hunger Games. Before countless survival games and death-match stories that followed. There was Koushun Takami’s brutal, controversial novel—and Kinji Fukasaku’s unforgettable cult film adaptation.
A class of students is taken to an isolated location, fitted with explosive collars, given weapons, and told the rules are simple:
Kill… or be killed.
But Battle Royale is much more than its infamous premise. Beneath the violence is a story about friendship, loyalty, fear, authoritarianism, betrayal, adolescence, and what happens when ordinary people are forced into an impossible situation.
Join us as we discuss both the novel and the film, compare how each tells the story, talk about the characters and unforgettable moments, and explore how Battle Royale became an international cult phenomenon whose influence can still be felt throughout pop culture today.
